23 Superheroes That Are Missing from the All-New, All Different Marvel Relaunch

As the death count rises in Secret Wars, the strange multi-dimensional format of it makes it difficult to figure out exactly what the consequences are.  We recently saw forty-five new series that will be starting this fall after Secret Wars comes to a close, yet it is certainly missing a number of heroes that we have come to expect from the Marvel universe.  Some of these come from problems with Marvel Studios negotiating with other film studios, such as the Fantastic Four as a team and the X-men more broadly, but in general there are actually a pretty large number of people that are missing.  We have brought together a quick list of the count that seems pretty iron-clad at this point.  They certainly could be returned to continuity later, but for right now it looks like Marvel has either eliminated them or seriously downlplayed their role in the relaunch.

Missing Characters:

  1. Cyclops
  2. Emma Frost
  3. Kitty Pryde
  4. Mr. Fantastic
  5. Invisible Woman
  6. Wasp
  7. Havok
  8. Thor Odinson
  9. Bruce Banner
  10. Gamora
  11. Luke Cage
  12. Jessica Jones
  13. Iron Fist
  14. Hank Pym
  15. Punisher
  16. Black Widow
  17. Winter Soldier
  18. Deathlok
  19. War Machine
  20. Cannonball
  21. Loki
  22. Silver Surfer
  23. Red Wolf

Rumor has it that Marvel was going to launch 60 series and only announced 45. Even if we add in the Star Wars books that still leaves a few more spots open. So expect more announcements.

Kitty Pryde appears to be leading the Guardians of the Galaxy and being engaged to Peter Quill means that she’ll probably be a starting character in the Star-Lord book as well.
Gamora also has her own series.
Thor Odinson will be a recurring character in the Thor series.
Bruce Banner, I would bet money that he is a recurring character in Totally Rad Hulk.
Cannonball and Sunspot are usually attached at the hip. So I expect him in AIM (I mean New Avengers)
Red Wolf was featured in the Marvel promotional materials expect a book for him in November I’m betting.
Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist will most likely headline a new “Defenders” book.
Punisher, Black Widow, Winter Soldier, Loki, Wasp I would be very surprised if these all didn’t have new books coming in one form or another because of what is going on outside of comics (i.e. marvel movies/TV)

As for the others (Cyclops, Emma Frost, Havok, Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Hank Pym, War Machine, Deathlok, Silver Surfer). Surfer & Deathlok have just finished series. Cyclops, Havok, Emma Frost, & Hank Pym have all just been taken off the board or are currently ‘toxic characters’. Reed & Sue (as well as the X-Men listed) are part of the Sony/Marvel Movie feud (Although I fully expect to see Sue land somewhere). Finally there is poor War Machine who can’t seem to carry his own series.

I liked Havok from Extinction Agenda. I prefer if Cyclops and Havok come from alternate universes and not be biological brothers.
