Vertigo Comics Solicits for November 2015

So this is the second solicit after the start of the “new and improved” Vertigo comics, with the second four new #1s coming in.  This means that there are a total of eight new series into November in either their first or second issue.  The top of this list is Jacked, which is also going to be a television program, developed by the creator of Supernatural, Eric Kripke.  Red Thorn seems like the most classically “Vertigo” of all the titles with its mythological theme, but all four new series seem to really push hard on the brand identity that Vertigo has had for almost twenty-five years.  Jacked is bringing us back Vertigo legends Glenn Fabry and John Higgins, Si Spencer of Bodies is returning with Slash and Burn, and Unfollow again brings in the kind of situational confusion that we have seen with many of their contemporary stories.
We also see Astro City and American Vampire are continuing strong, while Fables: A Wolf Among Us releases its second-to-last print issue.  We are still missing Effigy and Federal Bureau of Physics, which is hopefully not a sign of things to come.  Vertigo’s commitment to repackaging old books for premium collection releases continues, which means your local book shop will always be stocked with great Vertigo titles.  The most obvious of these is the iZombie omnibus, which is capitalizing on the success of the new CW television show.  Flinch, from Brian Azzarello, is also getting the first book of a premium re-run, similar to what they have been doing with Scalped.

Eric Kripke (creator of Supernatural) teams up with Vertigo veterans John Higgins (HELLBLAZER) and Glenn Fabry (PREACHER) to bring you a very Vertigo take on the modern superhero in this six-issue miniseries. Josh Jaffe, a neurotic family man mid-midlife crisis, buys an online “smart pill” to increase his focus and jolt him out of his slump. But to Josh’s surprise, the pill gives him incredible strength and power—but its cost is that it’s extremely addictive. This irreverent and brutally realistic story examines both the mighty highs and humiliating lows of being a real-life superhero.
