New York Comic Con has become second only to San Diego in terms of reveals and announcements. Marvel Studios relies on these cons for their major announcements, which allows them to dip their feet in both the comic and film worlds simultaneously. This is especially true as they reveal the newest of their Netflix projects, including the look they gave NYCC 2015 attendants of the new Jessica Jones. The only thing that could blow this out of the water was a brand new teaser trailer for Daredevil Season 2.
Jeph Loeb, who is Marvel Studios’ Head of Television, presented a trailer that was both a look back at season one and then never before scenes from the coming second season.
The new Daredevil trailer, which was confined only to the viewers in the room, was described by Variety like this:
easer that began with season one footage before transitioning into never-before-seen season two scenes, starting with Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and his friends Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) sitting looking defeated in a church, as Matt says in voiceover, “Why do I still feel guilty?”
“Guilt can be a good thing,” Father Lantom tells him, since it’s a way of telling a person that they “still have work to do.” The footage then cuts to quick shots of Matt in full Daredevil costume descending a stairwell; Foggy flanked by cops; new cast addition Elekra (Elodie Yung) pulling a fabric mask across the lower half of her face; Karen looking at an x-ray of a skull that looks suspiciously like The Punisher’s symbol; and Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal), aka The Punisher, walking down a hospital corridor with a gun in hand as his voice ominously intones, “Beg.”
The presentation of the trailer was followed by a panel with the cast discussing how the show has evolved in the second season. We all knew that the Punisher would be the major adversary of the second season, in the same way that Kingpin centered the first. It also seemed likely that Elektra would show up, which is sort of foreboding since we have a good idea of what’s coming. I guess we will have to wait until 2016 to find out for sure.
