As we get into the solicits for June, officially halfway through the year, we are still wondering when Vertigo will make promises on the “revamp” that was promised last year. There have been a number of notable news pieces and additions to the Vertigo line-up, but it is questionable whether these were a good thing or not. The biggest thing that people will notice will be right at the top: the first issue of the Mad Max miniseries. This is again a questionable move as Vertigo continues to simply rebrand itself as “mature readers” instead of the high-quality alternative books it had previously defined itself, all of which just happened to carry the age-appropriate warning. This follows the inclusions of books like Django and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which Vertigo is releasing another volume of this June as well.
Beyond this we really just see a lot more of the same, with trades coming out in appropriate time and order. The notable addition is the Vertiqo Quarterly collection that collects the four issues that were published in the first “color themed” run of this wonderful anthology series. This is one of the few trades I will pick up after I have already read the entire run in single issues since the short-stories have such a re-read value. Effigy, Suiciders, Strange Sports Stories, etc., all will continue as originally scheduled. Though not surprising, Fables and Fairest are both absent, just reminding us that our beloved series is coming to a close this month.
