After the new major Vertigo revamp announcement at San Diego Comic Con 2015, which revealed twelve new titles to begin in the final quarter of this year, we expected a big solicit. However, this is bigger than we even thought was coming. A big part of this comes from a great series of trades and collections that fill out the releases for the year, and is a foundation of Vertigo’s financial success. The top one here is the gallery edition of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. This massive volume comes in at $125, and is likely published in response to the possibility of a new film adaptation of Alan Moore’s famous series, intended to wash our mouths out from that terrible business from the early 2000s.
Four new series will be out in October: The Twilight Children, Survivor’s Club, Clean Room #1, and Art Ops. Twilight Children seems to be on the top of most people’s list because of the amazing art from Darwyn Cook, bringing in his classic stylized cartooning, matched with the indie characterization from Gilbert Hernandez. It is also nice to see Mike Allred back at Vertigo with Art Ops and Gail Simone returning with Clean Room. We also have a little more information about these new series with the solicits, with Clean Room seeming like a very interesting commentary on modern commercial spirituality.
Our noted favorites like Astro City will be continuing, which has been in top form in recent months. American Vampire Second Cycle will reach issue #11, and the overall series will release its seventh trade collection. Fables: A Wolf Among Us will be getting close to a finale, and Sandman: Overture will release its last issue. Trades for older books like Kid Eternity and Mark Millar’s Swamp Thing: Darker Genesis will be released, which is a really nice reminder that Vertigo’s library is an evergreen series of graphic literature that always continues to be on the front of the company’s mind. Trades of DMZ, Scalped, and The Kitchen will also be released.
We should also note that the third issue of Vertigo Quarterly: SFX will be out, an anthology that needs to always be on the front of everyone’s minds.
