Many of us have been waiting for DC to get somewhere close to where Marvel is in the film and television world. We are going to have to wait for a while. Right now DC is still where Marvel was several years ago, where most of their properties are too diversified to have a shared universe across all platforms. This is especially seen with the new Supergirl series that is coming to CBS primetime.
Supergirl, Kara Zor-El, is Superman’s cousin, and after a brief reveal of of Supes in the pilot, they hardly even reference him, and never by proper name. In the recent Supergirl panel at New York Comic Con 2015, producer Ali Adler explained how they wanted to really help Supergirl stand on her own.
“[We] all live in someone’s shadow in our lives, and we’re all second best to someone in our lives. What’s amazing on this show is she gets to be at the forefront, so we’re going to address where he is very quickly in the series. But it’s her show.”
This does not rule out an eventual team up between the characters, but it may also be a cover for copyright disputes between property holders. After the Fox/Marvel battle, anything is possible.
