Though Fox may not have been as successful with their comic adaptations as Marvel Studios, they can at least try and take some progressive turns.
The director of the upcoming Deadpool film for 20th Century Fox was asked recently about Deadpool’s sexuality in an interview with Collider. He responded:
Pansexual! I want that quoted. Pansexual Deadpool.
Ryan Reynolds, who is playing Deadpool, was also interviewed, and elaborated about the character’s sexuality a bit more.
There is some sexuality in this movie for sure. You kinda think you have moments when you’re shooting where you think, “This is, uh, a little excessive. This is a comic book movie. Are we gonna get away with this?” But so far so good. Studio hasn’t crushed us with anything. They were here yesterday, they were thrilled, they saw some cut footage and so far so good. We did a photo shoot for an entire day of just different, completely insane things that Deadpool is doing and there’s a lot more to come. They’ll be slowly released.
For folks who are new to the term, pansexuality is more diverse than bisexual identity in that they do not align themselves with any restriction or “orientation.” Instead, pansexuals take every partner as an individual and may or may not prefer genders or presentations. This is certainly an interesting take on Deadpool, and an important move for superhero movies that have been a straight strong hold.
