After the massive rebranding and release of twelve new Vertigo titles this year we guessed that we would not be able to expect any new Vertigo books for quite some time. Luckily, Editor in Chief Jamie S. Rich has a plan to really bring Vertigo in line with its main competitor, Image Comics. Now he is having all the genres covered in spades as they are instituting another horror book to round things out.
Writer Shawn Aldridge (Vic Boone) and artist Scott Godlewski (Copperhead) are bringing us a book called The Dark and Bloody. We follow our main character, Iris Gentry, as they run moonshine after returning from the military. The book, which follows Iris in response to an “otherworldly presence” is founded on the “Southern Gothic” tradition that we have seen from ghost and macabre tales coming out of the deep, post-Antebellum South.
Issue #1 of The Dark and Bloody will be out on February 10, 2016, and we will likely be seeing more internal art in the coming couple month before its release. This is a major move for Vertigo, showing that they are not just releasing a massive blast of books, but that this rebranding will be an ongoing project.
