With the Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Civil War Part I coming this summer, Civil War being revisited during Secret Wars, and Marvel reissuing all of the Civil War trade paperbacks in its anticipation, it seems that the epic battle of hero against hero is back in our mind. Now that Marvel has launched its new titles with the All-New, All Different Marvel relaunch, it seems that they are ready to start announcing the next large crossover events. It is in this climate that Marvel finally officially announced that it will bring the sequel to the 2006 massive event, Civil War.
Not a lot is known yet about Civil War 2 other than that it will take a lot of the best elements of the first event and try to bring it to the many changed heroes and dynamics in All-New, All Different Marvel. The editor of the original Civil War, Tom Brevoort, spoke up about what was successful about the first Civil War, and how they want to bring that in for the sequel.
The fun thing about CIVIL WAR [was] that the issues involved not only divided the heroes, they also divided the fans, to say nothing of the creative people. The attempt was to craft the conflict so that each side held a valid and defensible position, so that a reader could fundamentally agree with either one side or the other, with neither being painted as absolutely right or absolutely wrong. While the issues involved are different, we’ll be taking the same approach to CIVIL WAR II.
The sequel to Civil War is going to be written by Marvel staple Brian Michael Bendis and drawn by David Marquez. This seems like one of the most trusted Marvel teams out there, so it is likely to bring exactly the creative dynamic we want to see with the follow up to the original rift between the heroes.
