Now that Convergence #0 has been released, and since I am reading more DC superhero stuff than I ever had in the past, I have decided to jump in head first and see what this will be all about. I have pre-ordered more of the tie-ins than I could afford from Discount Comic Book Service, as well as the entire run of Convergence. With the 40 2-issue miniseries tie-ins it is hard to figure out the order of what to read and when. I personally have focused heavily on Bat-titles, a few classic characters, and ones by known great writers like Greg Rucka.
The miniseries itself is not universally in the New 52, and actually it is divided up by several events. This include “Crisis on Infinity Earths,” Zero Hour: Crisis in Time,” and “Flashpoint.” You will note that many of the miniseries below are going to be divided into periods of time that are pre or post different multiversity events. This means that many are in the old universe and some in the New 52 universe. The goal of the Convergence event is to diversify the continuity, breaking it down into different universes where stories can happen. While many geeks are up in arms about this, it actually provides a lot of opportunities since writers will be less constrained by archaic continuity and can instead just write great stories.
Much of this DC Convergence reading order was taking from How I Love Comics, Comic Book Resources, and other websites that were brought together to give a better sense of how and what to read. It should be said that the miniseries could be read separate from the regular series, but it would be good to have some background with the character and are reading the regular miniseries event. All DC universe series will be suspended during this event, which coincides them moving their studios over to Burbank.
