iZombie First Season Comes to DVD

The first season of iZombie, though shorter than a normal season, has now finished and came to a DVD/Blu-ray collection faster than you would expect.  The series, based on the campy throwback to Scooby-Doo, was a chance for Chris Roberson and Mike Allred to do something incredibly unique at iZombie that held a real mythology along with a “pop” feel.  The series takes a lot of liberties from the comic, but much of the tone and basic storyline is in tact, not to mention an intro designed by Allred.

The three-disc set includes the entire first season, including the controversial finale, as well as the range of special features and behind-the-scenes featurettes that we have come to expect.  The speed at which the series came to disc was surprising with all the ways that it can be watched online.  Both the CW and Hulu are maintaining the season as a whole so that you can watch it, and with it now out on DVD its place at Netflix is almost ensured.  This has become a regular part of serialized television where by less than half the audience is likely actually watching it on traditional television systems.

The series’ has already been slated for a second season, and with the ‘Veronica Mars’ and ‘Supernatural’ tone that has been set by the series, it is clearly a winner for the CW.  Expect it to stick around for some time.
